Amadeus

Why see Amadeus?

Madness & Envy In Vienna

The Shaw spotlights one of the biggest rivalries in music as they present Amadeus this season! Peter Shaffer's Tony-winning play shines a fictional light over classical music's greatest composer, imagining his rise to the top in Vienna, and the intense jealousy it inspires in his contemporary, Antonio Salieri. Highly theatrical, witty, and stunning, Amadeus not only highlights Mozart's genius but also that of the late Shaffer.

What Is The Story?

Inspired by the music of Mozart, fellow composer Antonio Salieri is desperate to meet the man behind the sound. However, his tastes are soured when he discovers the 'genius' is uncouth, lacking the charm he feels should accompany the talent. Desperate and jealous, he decides to bust into Mozart's inner circle, presenting a kind face while attempting to sabotage him at every turn.
